News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. Aug. 24, 2011: Jasmine McGlade Chazelle’s “Maria My Love,” a film about a young Los Angeles woman who is trying to recover from the death of her mother, was the winner of the best U.S. film award at the New York International Latino Film Festival this week.
The film, inspired by real events revolving around Ana, who is filled with resentments against her father and who finds support from her half-sister and a new romantic relationship, won the award at the Festival, which wrapped up Monday.
Meanwhile, Costa Rican feature “El regreso,” won for best foreign film.
“El regreso,” directed by Hernan Jimenez, tells the story of a man who, after living for a decade in New York, returns to visit his native Costa Rica, where he finds everything that he tried to flee from in the past.
