International Tourism Surge Continues In The Americas

News Americas, LONDON, England, Fri. Sept. 9, 2011: International tourism in the Americas is above the world average according to latest data from the UN World Tourism Organization.

The UNWTO says while international tourism grew by almost 5 percent in the first half of 2011, totaling a new record of 440 million arrivals, The Americas reported a 6 percent growth.

This was marked by a 15 percent increase for South America compared to slower growths of 5 percent in Asia and the Pacific.

“The sustained growth registered in tourism demand in such challenging times clearly makes the case for the sector and reinforces our call to consider tourism as a priority in national policies,” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.
