Black immigrants from Jamaica account for the largest number of foreign-born blacks across the U.S. today.

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. May 23, 2016: Too often, foreign-born immigrants who are black are dismissed and taken for granted as the “African-American” bloc in the U.S. Yet, conservative Census data shows that those from the Caribbean and Latin America are definitely a significant part of the black population in the U.S. Here are the nations in this region with the largest number of foreign-born blacks living in the United States today:

1: Jamaica

Black immigrants from Jamaica account for the largest number of foreign-born blacks across the U.S. today. They are put conservatively at 682,000 according to the American Community Survey of 2013, the latest data available and make up 18 percent of the total number of all foreign-born blacks in the country today.

2: Haiti

Black Haitians are the second highest number in the foreign-born demographic and are put at approximately 586,000 or 15 percent of all foreign-born blacks in the United States currently.

3: Trinidad & Tobago

Coming in at third on the Caribbean and Latin America list of foreign-born blacks but fourth overall, are black immigrants from the twin-island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago with an estimated 192,000.

4: Dominican Republic

Black immigrants from the Dominican Republic ranked fourth overall on the Caribbean and Latin America list of foreign-born black list but sixth, nationally. They are estimated to be around 161,000.

5: Guyana

Afro-Guyanese or black immigrants from Guyana are put at 122,000 nationally and ranked 8th overall on the foreign-born black list but fifth on the Caribbean and Latin America list.

6: Mexico

In the sixth spot on the list of highest number of Caribbean and Latin American blacks in the U.S. is surprisingly Mexico. The ACM data says there are around 70,000 black Mexicans in the U.S. but they rank only 12th on the overall foreign-born black list.

7: Barbados

Black immigrants from Barbados make up the 13th largest number of foreign-born blacks in the U.S. but seventh for Caribbean and Latin American blacks with some 51,000.

8: Cuba

Black Cubans in the U.S. are put at some 41,000 and make up the 15th largest number of foreign-born blacks in the U.S. but take the 8th spot for the largest number of blacks from the Caribbean and Latin America living in the United States.

9: Grenada

Coming in at ninth on the list of largest number of blacks from the Caribbean and Latin America living in the U.S. is Grenada with an estimated 34,000 black migrants. They make up the 17th largest number of foreign-born blacks in the U.S.A.

10: Panama

Rounding out the top ten list of largest number of blacks from the Caribbean and Latin America living in the U.S. is Panama. The number of Black Panamanians in the U.S. is put at 32,000 and is the 19th largest number of foreign-born blacks living in the U.S.A. today.
