West Indies Versus England

The West Indies Cricket team goes into its fourth World Cup match today, June 14th with three points on the board. This will be a unique match as it means the Windies will face England and one of their own who has just become part of the English squad – Barbadian fast bowler, Jofra Archer.

The Bridgetown-born Archer only made his international debut for England in May and played in the Cricket World Cup later the same month. But West Indies coach Corey Collymore says top batsman, Chris Gayle, is eager to take on the English seamers at the Hampshire Bowl on Friday.

“Chris thrives on that. I have known him since he was 16 and he has always loved a challenge,” said Collymore, the West Indies bowling coach. “He has always enjoyed the challenge of fast bowling, so I expect him to relish that. I have known Archer for a while, and I saw Wood in the Caribbean.”

Reggae Girlz Faces Italy

Five days after their 2019 FIFA World Cup debut, Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz go into their second match today, Friday June 14th at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims.

The Jamaicans will be trying to a win over Italy, even as the Italian side will be looking to keep their momentum after upsetting Australia in a come-from-behind win in their opening match Sunday.  Jamaica, however, has a lot of work to do after a 3-0 loss to Brazil in their first match. But there were some positive signs especially in goalie Sydney Schneider that can serve the team well. Defender Lauren Silver, told the Jamaica Gleaner that “…. going into the Italy game, …. we can take those notes and take it into the game against Italy and maybe we will have a little bit more of an edge going into that game as well.”
