News Americas, LONDON, England, Thurs. Sept. 8, 2011: Reggae artist Jah Cure is no longer up for a MOBO.
The artist, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, was nominated initially in the best reggae category for a MOBO, had the nomination soon after withdrawn. That’s because organisers said they found out he was a convicted rapist ahead of the ceremony in Glasgow in October.
The 33-year-old was given a prison sentence in 1999 for a gunpoint assault in Jamaica.
The four remaining nominees in the best reggae category are Damian Marley & Nas, Alborosie, Khago and Mavado.
The MOBO’s, now in its 16th year, is set for Glasgow on October 5th.
