News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Mar. 26, 2015: Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, will be in New York City this afternoon to kick off the 6th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference.

PM Simpson Miller will address the Jamaican community in New York at a community meeting set for 6:30 p.m. this afternoon at the St. Georges Episcopal Church, 209 East 16th Street, New York, NY 10003.

The event is the first in a series of Diaspora launches for the Conference – set to unfold at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from June 13-18, 2015.

Senator, the Honourable Arnold J. Nicholson, QC, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and officials from the Conference preparatory team will also accompany the PM to New York, which boasts a conservative number of about 1.1 million Jamaicans.

Staged under the theme, Jamaica and the Diaspora: Linking for Growth and Prosperity, this year’s conference will seek to place equal emphasis on social development and trade and investment. It will also feature a bigger marketplace with local and overseas exhibitors, complete with fast tracked services from a range of government agencies and an entertainment aspect dubbed Marketplace Live.

The six-day program concludes with the highly anticipated Diaspora Day of Service, during which members of the Diaspora will execute a range of projects in communities’ island wide.

Grammy-winning reggae star, Orville “Shaggy” Burrell, has been named as conference ambassador of the Conference.

Other Diaspora launch locations for the sixth staging of the global forum for Jamaica/Diaspora engagement include Grand Cayman, Florida, USA, Toronto and Ontario, Canada and Edmonton, England.
