News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Thurs. April 28, 2011: U.S. President Barack Obama has moved to shut the mouths of birthers and Donald Trump once and for all.
The White House yesterday released Obama’s official U.S. birth certificate to try to end a silly debate by a movement called the “Birthers” over whether he was born in the U.S. or not.
The new document is a “long-form” birth certificate that confirms what a shorter version has already said, that President Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961 at the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital.
Obama, in remarks to the media Wednesday, said that over the last two and a half years he has watched with bemusement, the debate.
He insisted that the country has “enormous challenges” ahead and he hopes the American people and America’s political leaders can come together in a bipartisan way and solve these problems and not be distracted.
“We’re not going to be able to do it if we spend time vilifying each other,” he said. “We’re not going to be able to do it if we just make stuff up and pretend that facts are not facts. We’re not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers.”
Trump for his part took the credit for Obama releasing his birth certificate, insisting: “Today I am very proud of myself. I have accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish,” he told reporters in an airplane hangar. “I was just informed, while on the helicopter, that our president has finally released a birth certificate.”
