Obama orders deeper Venezuela sanctions over abuses

Leftist regional allies, many of whom receive critical economic aid from Caracas, came to Venezuela’s defense. Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino warned the South American bloc UNASUR would not allow “foreign intervention” or a coup in Venezuela.
