News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Dec. 13, 2012: There are exactly 1500 more days left to the Obama Presidency.
So what is the good news? There is none.
Well maybe just a little bit be it inconsequential.
GOOD bye Susan Rice.
So Washington, D.C. is the only place on Earth that everyone who can’t be President wants to be a Secretary. Susan Rice is certainly no exception and for a while it seemed she would get her wish. But now if she wants to be a secretary, she will have to search on Craig’s List or in the Washington Post.
The Buzz about Rice becoming the next U.S. Secretary of State when Hillary soon says bye, bye seemed to begin the moment Barack’s re-election became official on election night.
Barack and Michelle were going to take care of one of their best friends, a member of the Obama Inner Circle, who often spent vacations in Hawaii with them. Someone who knows her way around The White House and Air Force One almost as well as the Obama’s. Joined at the hip with the Obama White House.
I mean isn’t that what being President of the United States is all about? Taking care of your friends? Making sure they get their own big U.S. government jet to fly around the world at our expense.
There is no doubt the Obama’s know that well. They prove it!
For a while it seemed like a somewhat meaningless complaint by some bitter and meaningless Republican U.S. Senators who didn’t like how Rice explained the Libyan situation that resulted in the killing of a U.S. diplomat might cause her some minor problem on the way to confirmation but nothing serious.
Michelle certainly was not going to put up with that nonsense. It was still going to be Secretary of State Susan Rice even if Obama had to put some muscle into the confirmation.
Then just recently low and behold the REAL Susan Rice stood up if involuntarily in the pages of The New York Times and elsewhere. Seems Susan Rice is a big fan of African despots and did not hide that fact over the last 4 years as UN Ambassador, the U.S.’ UN chief delegate.
In fact one of the articles in The Times is titled “Susan Rice and Africa Despots” to make the point.
May I quote The Times for you …
“On Sept. 2, Ambassador Susan E. Rice delivered a eulogy for a man she called “a true friend to me.” Before thousands of mourners and more than 20 African heads of state in, Ethiopia, Ms. Rice, the United States’ representative to the United Nations, lauded the country’s late Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi. She called him “brilliant” — “a son of Ethiopia and a father to its rebirth.”
“Few eulogies give a nuanced account of the decedent’s life, but the speech was part of a disturbing pattern for an official who could become President Obama’s next secretary of state. During her career, she has shown a surprising and unsettling sympathy for Africa’s despots.”
Further into the December 10, 2012 article …
“In remarks to a subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations that year, Ms. Rice was equally breathless about the continent’s future. “There is a new interest in individual freedom and a movement away from repressive, one-party systems,” she said. “It is with this new generation of Africans that we seek a dynamic, long-term partnership for the 21st century.”
“Her optimism was misplaced. In the 14 years since, many of these leaders have tried on the strongman’s cloak and found that it fit nicely. Mr. Meles dismantled the rule of law, silenced political opponents and forged a single-party state. Mr. Isaias, Mr. Kagame and Mr. Museveni cling to their autocratic power.”
Then there is this other recent Times article about Susan Rice titled, “U.N. Ambassador Questioned on U.S. Role in Congo Violence” which states … “According to rights organizations and diplomats at the United Nations, Ms. Rice has been at the forefront of trying to shield the Rwandan government, and Mr. Kagame in particular, from international censure, even as several United Nations reports have laid the blame for the violence in Congo at Mr. Kagame’s door.”
And why does Ms. Rice seem to have such enthusiasm for African goons who repress their own people and far worse. Well, well, well when Susan Rice was a high priced Washington, D.. lobbyist with a firm named Intellibridge Rice, she had a fondness for representing African despots, some of whom became her good friends.
Then when her even better friends, the Obama’s came to Power, Rice was able to serve them in a different way at no cost, in a very senior position as America’s UN delegate with the title of Ambassador. Now her words became golden indeed when she went out of her way to publicly praise African despots for their “good” works in her official capacity as UN Ambassador.
Sadly for her and the Obama’s that should now end her being nominated and even less confirmed as U.S. Secretary of State.
But not to worry, Rice can continue on at the UN and do more of the same, or better yet go back into private practice in D.C. with a far higher price tag then before and begin riding the DC Gravy Train now and 4 years before the Obama’s get to do so themselves.
Whatever, at least there is no longer any mystery why Barack, Michelle and Susan Rice are such good friends ….
