R. Kelly’s Throat Surgery Leaves Sumfest Organizers In The Lurch

News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Thurs. July 21, 2011: Grammy-winning R&B singer, R. Kelly, has left Reggae Sumfest organizers scrambling for a replacement after he underwent emergency surgery yesterday.

The 44-year-old singer, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was rushed to a Chicago hospital on Tuesday in severe pain. Doctors reportedly found an abscess on one of his tonsils, which had to be drained, according to a statement from his spokesman Allan Mayer.
As such, Kelly will be unable to perform for an indefinite period, beginning with a cancellation of this July 23rd performance in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Kelly, whose hits include “You Remind Me of Something” and “I Believe I Can Fly,” first gained fame in the early 1990s.

Summerfest Productions say they are now hurrying to find an artiste to fill the void left by Kelly. So far, Trinidad-born rapper, Nicki Minaj, remains among the acts for International Night II on Saturday.
