 News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Tues. July 3, 2018: A Central American nation has assumed the chairmanship of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, (OAS).

Costa Rica’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, Rita Hernández Bolaños, assumed the post Monday and said she will focus her mandate on democracy, human rights and equality.

The Permanent Representative of El Salvador, Carlos Alberto Calles, will serve as Vice Chair.

The post rotates every three months.
