Grammy nominated Jazz maestro Monty Alexander is among the 2014 Soul Train Awards nominees.

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Oct. 17, 2014: Five Caribbean-born artists are among the nominees for the 2014 annual Soul Train Awards, which is set to take over the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on November 7th.

Grammy-winning reggae atists Shaggy and Ziggy Marley have both been nominated in the Best International Performance category along with Trinidad & Tobago’s soca icon, Machel Montano.

Shaggy made the list for his collaboration with R&B sensation Ne-Yo, on ‘You Girl’ while Marley earned his spot for’ I Don’t Wanna Live on Mars,’ one of the singles from his latest Fly Rasta album. Montano made the list for his “Ministry of Road (M.O.R.).”

Trinidad & Tobago-born rapper, Nicki Minaj, also made the nomination list with her ‘Pills N Potions.’ Minaj has been nominated in the Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year category and faces competition from Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX with ‘Fancy;’ Drake feat. Majid Jordan with ‘Hold On;’ Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne & Tyga with ‘Loyal,’ T.I. feat. Iggy Azalea with ‘No Mediocre’ and ScHoolboy Q feat. BJ the Chicago Kid with ‘Studio.’

Jamaican Commander in Chief and Grammy-nominated jazz maestro, Monty Alexander, has received his first-ever Soul Train nomination. Alexander has been nominated in the category of Best Traditional Jazz Performance, for his Concierto de Aranjuez album and is up against Audra McDonald (What a Little Moonlight Can Do), Gregory Porter (Hey Laura), Kenny Garrett (Pushing the World Away), and Wynton Marsalis (Flee as A Bird to the Mountain – Live).

The Soul Train Awards will honour artistes in 12 different categories. R&B singer Chris Brown this year topped the list of nominees with seven nominations, including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Song of the Year for Loyal featuring Lil Wayne and Tyga, and Video of the Year for New Flame featuring Usher.

Beyoncé followed with six nominations, including Best R&B/Soul Female Artist followed by Pharrell Williams with five nominations, including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist of the Year.

The 2014 Soul Train Awards will hosted by talk show host, Wendy Williams.
