News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Mon. Nov. 23, 2015: Two top Caribbean music stars last night walked away winners at the 2015 American Music Awards, held at the Microsoft Theatre in L.A.

Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj took home two awards while Bajan-born star Rihanna walked away with one.

Minaj, who attended with her boyfriend Meek Mills, won for Favorite Artist and Favorite Album for ‘The Pinkprint’ album in the Rap/Hip-Hop category.

 

“I know this award is about fans voting,” Minaj, 32, said, after dancing her way to the podium. In  a Michael Costello gown. “… PinkPrint was the hardest album I ever had to do, be a part of, perform on stage every night.” Thank you, she said, for “allowing me to change… You have to find your voice and find your purpose before it’s too late.”

Rihanna beat out both Beyonce and Mary J. Blige to take home the  Favorite Female Artist — Soul/R&B award of the night.

Meanwhile, in the Latin category, Spanish-born singer Enrique Iglesias was the winner in the Favorite Artist Latin category.
