News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Nov. 11, 2016: Caribbean and Latin roots celebrities like many Hillary Clinton supporters across the nation are taking to social media to express their stunned disbelief at the results of the Nov. 8, 2016 election.
“Today I was silent. Tonight I joined my community to peacefully demonstrate. Tmrw we try to work together. Forever, I choose love,” said actress Monica Raymund, who currently plays Gabriela Dawson on the NBC drama ‘Chicago Fire’ and whose roots extend to the Dominican Republic.
“I can barely speak,” said Trinidad-roots actress Tatyana Ali, best known for her role as Ashley Banks on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, on Twitter. And she added that 20 million people are going to lose their health insurance.
Haitian-born actress Garcelle Beauvais , best known for her roles as Francesca “Fancy” Monroe on The WB television sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, shared that her son Jax cried when she told him who had won the Presidency but urged all to “stay #hopeful #loving (and) #kind.”
Guyanese-American actor Sean Patrick Thomas, best known for his co-starring role in the 2001 film Save the Last Dance, as well as his television role as Detective Temple Page in The District, was more emotional in his Tweet.
“If this is really happening, my children will go from respecting and idolizing their President to despising him. With my full support,” he posted.
Guyana-roots TV host Joy Reid shared that her kids are also “dreading the Trump Age” while Cuban-roots actor, Guillermo Diaz, best known as Huck in the ABC drama TV series Scandal shared that he donated to Planned Parenthood Action Fund, a non-profit that is certain to see its funding cut under the new president and government.
“Let’s do all we can,” Diaz tweeted along with the trending hashtag, “#NotMyPresident.”
While Mexican roots actress Eva Longoria Baston insisted her heart is broken. Longoria Baston had been a major advocate for Clinton especially in the Latino community.
Trinidad-born actress Lorraine Toussaint, who is now on Rosewood, struck a more prayerful note.
“This is the call to Spiritual Warriors. Wake Up! God’s Grace upon this great Nation. God Bless us All,” she tweeted.
And Guyanese-roots actress Kylie Bunbury, who is heating things up in ‘Pitch’ as a talented female baseball pitcher, also choose to promote love.
“Love. ALWAYS. WINS.,” she tweeted.
