The French Caribbean island is also the birth place of Dr. Joseph Vitalien, one of two original teachers of Ras Tafari, the man who later became Emperor Haile Selassie. A statue to Selassie was unveiled in Ethiopia on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019.
