Cayman Islanders Approve Electoral Change But Won’t Affect Legality

News Americas, GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman, Thurs. July 19, 2012: Voters in the Cayman Islands choose to vote “yes” to change their electoral system following a referendum on Wednesday, July 18th.

But the “yes” votes were not enough to achieve the “magic number” of 7,582 needed to legally bind the government to enact the single member district voting system, according to the Cayman Compass.

The final vote count was 8,677 votes cast in total, including postal and mobile ballots. That’s about a 57 per cent turnout.
