Mexican Director Wins Oscar For Gravity

News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Mon. Mar. 3, 2014: Mexican-born film maker Cuarón Orozco last night won the coveted best director award at the Oscar’s, beating out Caribbean American Steve McQueen to take the coveted prize.

Cuaron is the first Latino winner of the honor in the Oscars’ 86-year history.

The award-winning film maker best known for his films A Little Princess (1995), Y Tu Mamá También (2001), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Children of Men (2006), and now Gravity (2013), won seven awards at the Oscar’s.

His fantasy adventure series Believe is due to be broadcast in 2013–2014.

Most of his work has been praised by both audience and critics.

Cuarón’s brother Carlos, as well as his son Jonás, are writers and directors as well and both acted as co-writers in some of his works.
