News Americas, INGLEWOOD, CA, Mon. Aug. 25, 2014: Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj showed the MTV Video Music Awards audience the true art of twerking Sunday night.

The sexy rapper from the land of soca, carnival and wine, threw down at the VMA’s during the performance of her new song, ‘Anaconda.’

From twerking on the  floor of the stage, to having one of her dancers grinding on top of her, Minaj’s twerking certainly put Miley Cyrus to shame.

Minaj wore a shimmery green top and sequined shorts but later had to hold the front of her outfit together after a long split appeared.

Earlier, Minaj walked the red carpet in a toned down look that showed off black hair coiffed to her shoulders and a short, sleek leopard print that alluded to the wild spirit of her new “Anaconda” album.

Snakes, though, were not part of the Sunday night performance.

Days before the VMAs, a 6-foot-long boa constrictor bit a background dancer during a rehearsal for Minaj’s performance, MTV News reported.

Ariana Grande, Minaj and Jessie J kicked off the 2014 Video Music Awards with a medley of their summer hits: “Break Free,” “Anaconda” and “Bang Bang.”
