That about sums up the second historic win by Jamaica’s legendary Olympian, Usain St. Leo Bolt, as he shot into the history books again last night in Rio with his second triple win – this time in the 200-meters in a time of 19. 78 seconds. And fans including Team USA could not hold back the sheer awe and admiration for the 29-year-old who claimed his 8th Olympic gold, taking to social media in droves to offer congratulations.
Soon after the win, Team USA took to Twitter to post: “Wow. Congrats @usainbolt! #Respect,” with the US and Jamaican flag posted side by side.
Hall of Famer and Olympic Champion Donovan Bailey was also full of praise for Bolt’s second win in days, taking to Twitter to dub the moment: “Place where no human has ever been #rio2016. Huge Congratulations to the living legend @usainbolt on making history again.”
Michael Kojo Essien, a Ghanaian footballer who last played for Panathinaikos and the Ghana national team, also weighed in tweeting: “Congratulations @usainbolt for winning 100m & 200m race,Legend#Olympics#Rio16” while retired NFL basketball star Dikembe Mutombo was full of praise for Bolt, tweeting: “When you are good. Nobody can not beat you. Congratulations my brother @usainbolt.”
nd as many started comparing Bolt to another Jamaican legend, the Bob Marley Museum, wTweeted: “Congratulations to the track King Usain Bolt! Historic moment winning gold in both the 100m and 200m! #OneLove.”
Former Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller also got in on the immediate action, Tweeting: “ It’s not every day that we get to celebrate a living legend. Usain has made an entire nation proud. This young man is limitless.”
Meanwhile, the now two-time triple record holder, in his usual buoyant style, took to Twitter himself to post: “Another One #Gold #Rio2016. We Still A Win #Gold #Rio2016 #Woooyooiiii”
Bolt’s latest feat on the track moved Jamaica’s medal total to 7 as of Thursday night, Aug. 18, 2016, five of which are gold medals. Cuba has nine medals so far, while Grenada, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas have one apiece, moving the total Caribbean medal tally in Rio to 2o.
