Gina Rodriguez of the series ‘Jane the Virgin’ has received a Golden Globe nomination this year for the show.

News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Tues. Dec. 13, 2016: The nominees for the 74th Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday and among them are two Caribbean roots actors and one who was born in Mexico.

Actress Kerry Washington, whose roots extend to Jamaica, received a nomination in the category: Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in ‘Confirmation.’ The Bronx-born actress’ mother, a professor and educational consultant, was born in Jamaica.

Also getting the nod this year is Puerto Rico-roots Gina Rodriguez for ‘Jane The Virgin.’ Rodriguez received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical. Rodriguez was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Puerto Rican parents Magali and Genaro Rodríguez, a boxing referee.

Receiving a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical is Mexican actor, producer and director Gael Garcia Bernal. Garcia, who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, the son of Patricia Bernal, an actress and former model, and José Ángel García, an actor and director, received the nod for his performance in ‘Mozart in the Jungle.’

Meanwhile, ‘Neruda,’ the Chilean film featuring Bernal who reteamed with ‘No’ director Larrain to play a detective chasing down Chilean poet in exile Pablo Neruda, has received a nomination for Best Foreign-Language Film.

‘La La Land’ leads the film nominees with a total of seven mentions, followed by ‘Moonlight’ with six. On the TV side, ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,’ topped with five, followed by ‘The Night Manager’ with four.

The 74th Golden Globe Awards, which are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be hosted by Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and will air live on both coasts Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 on NBC.
