But according to Numbeo data, that is not true in at least five Caribbean countries. Here are the five countries where the cost of living is a whole lot higher than the U.S:
1: Bermuda
Bermuda is the most expensive Caribbean country to live in. In this British Caribbean territory, the cost of living is a whopping 95 percent higher than in United States. This does not include rents. When rent is taken into account, Bermudians pay on the whole 183.46 percent higher for rentals than in United States. Get ready to spend US $16.46 for a gallon of milk and US $5.59 for a loaf of white bread. A three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant will set you back US $125 while a meal at an inexpensive restaurant will cost you US $30.
2: The Cayman Islands
The second most expensive city to live in, in the Caribbean is the Cayman Islands. Numbeo data analysis says the cost of living in the Cayman Islands is over 91 percent higher than in United States – minus rent. Rent in Cayman Islands is almost 53 percent higher than in United States. Dining out at a mid-range restaurant here with a friend, family member or spouse will cost you US $120 while a meal at a local inexpensive restaurant is estimated at US $ 24.81. Get ready to pay US $3.91 for a loaf of white bread and US $8.30 for a gallon of milk.
3: The Bahamas
Coming in at third on the most expensive Caribbean places to live, is the Bahamas. The data shows that the cost of living in Bahamas is over 42 percent higher than in United States, minus rent. A gallon of milk will cost you US $ 8.88 while a loaf of white bread will set you back US $ 3.27. If you want to eat out, get ready to shell out US $ 16.50 at an inexpensive restaurant while dining out with your significant other at a mid-range restaurant will cost you US $ 82.50.
4: Barbados
Ranking as the fourth most expensive on the list is Barbados. The cost of living in Barbados is estimated at over 14 percent higher than in United States, minus rent. In Barbados, get ready to shell out US $63.75 for a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant and US $12.50 for a meal for a meal at an inexpensive restaurant. A gallon of milk here will set you back USD 12.83 while a loaf of bread is US $ 2.05.
5: US Virgin Islands
Rounding out the top five most expensive Caribbean locations is the U.S. Virgin Islands. The cost of living in US Virgin Islands is almost 24 percent higher than in United States minus rent. When rent is taken into account, it is around 23 percent higher than in United States mainland. In the USVI, a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant could run you US $65 while an inexpensive meal will put your back US $14. Meanwhile, a gallon of milk will cost you US $6.97 and a loaf of fresh white bread, US $4.05.
