The total eclipse may last less than a minute in some places, while a partial eclipse may be visible for an hour or more. As you gather to soak in this natural phenomenon, especially in  Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina which will see the total eclipse, here are some recommended Caribbean rum winners from this year’s World’s Best Rum awards, to sip and savor while you soak in the view.

1: Mutineers Gold XO Special Reserve Rum

This St. Vincent & the Grenadines made 8-12 year-old rum has won the 2017 award for World’s Best Rum. Mutineers Gold XO Special Reserve Rum has mellow oak and vanilla aromas and a long, soft dry finish.

2: Sparrows Premium Rum

This rum is aged up to 7 years and is another World’s Best Rum winner this year. It has a soft Demerara edge to the nose, with hints of coffee.

3: Angostura Reserva

This Trinidad & Tobago rum made by Angostura was judged among the best white rums globally at the World Rum Award 2017. It has a faint fruit salad aroma but is light and sweet on the palate with some pleasantly subtle peppery spices.

4: Angostura 1919

Another winner for taste this year the Angostura 1919, also made in Trinidad & Tobago. It has aromas of Cocoa bean and coffee ice cream and is sweet and soft on the palate with underlying cocoa powder and cooked banana notes.

5: Westerhall No5

This Grenada-made gold rum won the bronze award this year for design.  Westerhall Rum No.5 is a great base for all manner of fruity rum cocktails. It smells of soft spices with notes of vanilla fudge, hints of faint smoke, toasted oak and caramel. On the palate, it taste of cream and caramel with notes of allspice, Black Forest honey, a hint of fruit and custard.
