Reggae Charts

A Jamaican has at again taken the number one spot on the Billboard Reggae charts.

Reggae’s Queen Ifrica’s latest studio album “Climb” debuted at #1 this week. Sales of the album were bolstered by an in-store/acoustic performance event at VP Records’ Florida location as well as strong digital album downloads. Returning to the scene after a six year hiatus, Climb is receiving rave reviews from fans and music critics alike for its timely messages and inspirational lyrics. ”

The video and first single “Trueversation features Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley” and  is also growing at radio as the YouTube video nears 200,000 cumulative views.

Billy Ocean

Trinidad-born, UK-based pop singer Billy Ocean along with Taylor Dane will play the Pompano Beach Amphitheater in Pompano, FL, tonight, Friday, Mar. 17, 2017. Show time is 8 p.m. at 1806 NE Sixth St., Pompano Beach. Tickets start at $35. Information can be obtained here.

Billy Ocean has collected a pile of Gold and Platinum records across the world and hit the number one spot worldwide on pop charts including the USA, Australia, Germany, Holland, and the UK.

Calypso Rose

The US launch of Calypso Rose’s album ‘Far From Home’ will be held this Sunday at the Standard East Village Penthouse in NYC. The album has already gone certified Gold in France and is set to go Platinum. The Tobago-born singer was just awarded with the Victoires de la Musique in February in Paris after a successful Trinidad carnival with the hit single ‘Leave Me Alone.’ Rose with her Calypso sound system  will be performing in a private show on March 26th in the East Village.

Rihanna

Rihanna continues a historic climb up the Billboard Hot 100. With “Love on the Brain,” she lands her 22nd top five smash on the chart, breaking away from Elvis Presley on the most top fives of all time list. Now, the sole holder of fifth place, RiRi sits below The Beatles (29), Madonna (28), Mariah Carey (26), and Janet Jackson (24), according to Billboard.

Meanwhile, Rihanna may collaborate with some the biggest names in the music industry. According to a new report from Variety, Amazon has acquired the distribution rights to the musical drama Annette, in which Rihanna will star with Girls’ Adam Driver.

The plot centers around a widowed stand-up comedian who discovers his young daughter possesses a “surprising gift.”

Lorraine Toussaint

Trinidad-born Hollywood actress Lorraine Toussaint has reportedly signed on to drama thriller ‘Fast Color,’ opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The pic is directed by Juila Hart and produced by La La Land Oscar nominee Jordan Horowitz under his Original Headquarters banner and LD Entertainment Jackie producers Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon. Filming is underway in New Mexico.
