News Americas, CARACAS, Venezuela, Mon. June 27, 2011: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is in a “great battle” for his health.
That’s according to Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro. Chavez is still in Cuba since undergoing surgery for a pelvic abscess on June 10th in Cuba.
The 56-year-old President had been visiting the island as part of an international tour. He has been largely silent after making a telephone call to state media on June 12th to tell them he was recovering quickly, and that medical tests showed no sign of a “malignant” illness.
Opposition politicians have complained that it is unconstitutional for Chavez to govern from abroad.
