News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Fri. May 13, 2016: The countdown has begun for students from six Caribbean and one South American nation to apply for scholarships from Barbadian star Rihanna’s Foundation. The Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) was founded in 2012 by Rihanna in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. Here are 10 prerequisites for applicants:

Only nationals from Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, or Jamaica who are eligible to study in the United States and been accepted to an accredited four-year college or university there may apply.

Awards range from $5,000 to $50,000, are for undergraduate study only and may be used only for tuition expenses.

All applications must be submitted here by 1:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time on June 10, 2016.

Applicants must submit electronically: a current, complete transcript of grades along with a completed Applicant Appraisal Form and a copy of the acceptance letter from the accredited four-year college or university they will be attending in the United States.

Applicants will be notified in late July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists or recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Scholarship finalists will be selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) each semester.

The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender or disability.

Selection of finalists will be made by Scholarship Management Services and not by any employee of Clara Lionel Foundation.  However, once finalists are selected, a selection committee at Clara Lionel Foundation will determine recipients.

No employee or consultant of the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) or Roc Nation, LLC, or any family member of such employee or consultant, is eligible to apply and no officer or director of the CLF, member of the Selection Committee, employee, consultant or family member of any officer, director, or member of the Selection Committee, is eligible to apply.
