News Americas, BOSTON, MA, Weds. Nov. 2, 2016: The family of a  36-year-old Haitian woman who migrated to the US only three months ago and was felled by a stray bullet in Boston over the weekend, needs your help with funding her funeral.

Victoria Fleury of The Association for Haitian Women in Boston (AFAB) said that Benine Timothee had moved to Massachusetts only three months ago from Les Cayes, Haiti, with two of her seven children, ages 12 and 13, to be reunited with her husband, who has lived in Boston for several years. Timothee’s husband works two low-paying jobs in order to support the family.

Boston Police Department on Tuesday said Mrs. Timothee was walking down Washington Street in the Dorchester neighborhood around 2:27 P.M. Saturday afternoon when she was hit by a stray bullet meant for a teenager nearby. She died at a nearby hospital soon after. Timothee was as on her way to a community center to learn English when she was shot.

“In the midst of transitioning to a new country and what [they] would hope to be a better life, the family is completely devastated by this senseless act of violence,” the group, known by the Haitian acronym, AFAB, wrote on its GoFundMe page set up to fund the funeral of Timothee.

The family is planning the funeral this week. To help, donate here. The group as of today had raised USD 5,338 of its 15k goal.

No arrests have been made so far in the killing. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives assigned to Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470.

Community members wishing to assist this investigation anonymously can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). The Boston Police Department says it will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to help this investigation in an anonymous manner.
