News Americas, ROAD TOWN, BVI, Weds. June 10, 2015: The incumbent National Democratic Party has been returned to power in the British Virgin Islands.

Premier and NDP leader Orlando Smith led his party to another term securing seven of 13 parliament seats, including two previously held by the opposition Virgin Islands Party.

The NDP won all the districts except VIP strongholds One and Three, which were retained by Andrew Fahie and Julian Fraser, respectively.

Newcomer Mitch Turnbull won District Two, Mark Vanterpool Three, Delores Christopher Five, Alva Maduro-Caines Six, Dr. Kedrick Pickering Seven, and Marlon Penn Eight. In Virgin Gorda, NDP candidate Dr. Hubert O’Neal beat Virgin Islands Party contender Elton Sprauve, 669 to 389 votes.

Premier Smith has pledged to continue expanding the BVI airport and building an upscale luxury and business resort on the island of 30,000 people.
