News Americas, BROOKLYN, NY, Fri. July 24, 2014: ‘Jean & Dinah,’ of the famed Sparrow Calypso fame are coming to Brooklyn to tell “dey own damn story” this August.

In a play written and directed by Tony Hall and produced by Lordstreet Theatre, the two women of the Mighty Sparrow’s calypso, are making their voices heard.

Starring Rhoma Spencer as Dinah and Penelope Spencer as Jean, the play is a tragi-comedy set in 1990’s Port-of Spain, Trinidad. It takes fans back some 40 years back to the theater of the streets of Port-of-Spain when Jean & Dinah ruled the town.

On Jouvay morning, the dawn of Carnival Monday, Jean comes to take her friend, Dinah, to play mas in the city as they have done for the over 40 years. In the ensuing battle to get Dinah out of bed and onto the streets, both women discover things about themselves that shaped their lives.

Featuring master percussionist Tamba Gwindi, the story of Jean & Dinah takes its viewers on an emotional roller coaster of laughter, pain and sorrow.
