News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Mar. 8, 2018: Another Caribbean-born player has been contracted by MLS club, D.C. United.

Jamaica international forward, Dane Kelly, 27, was reportedly signed this week. Kelly appears to be the attacking player that United GM Dave Kasper last weekend, and would be the 26th player on the roster.

He is a legal permanent resident, which means he will not require an international roster spot.

Kelly has played in the USL exclusively since 2011, with the Charleston Battery, Swope Park Rangers and most recently Reno 1868, where he scored 18 goals in 27 games last year en route to winning the USL Golden Boot.

In his seven USL seasons, Kelly scored 67 goals in 144 games, making him the league’s all-time leading scorer. Recently Kelly’s goal scoring prowess earned the attention of his national team, and he scored a goal for the Reggae Boyz in a January friendly with South Korea.

Kelly joins fellow Jamaican Darren Mattocks on the D.C. United team.

COSTA RICAN PLAYER

Meanwhile, United has also acquired Deportivo Saprissa’s Costa Rican defender Joseph Mora on a permanent transfer, pending receipt of his P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

The 25-year-old scored one goal and recorded two assists in 83 appearances in all competitions for Deportivo Saprissa in the Liga de Fútbol de Primera División (2014/2015 – 2017/2018).

Mora spent his youth career in the L.D. Alajuelense academy and was signed by Costa Rican top tier side Guadalupe FC on July 1, 2011. He made his professional debut for Guadalupe FC on April 8, 2012 in a 4-2 loss against future club, Deportivo Saprissa.
