News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 7, 2015: The first GOP debate is officially over but many are still talking about it on social media, including Caribbean-Americans, who tuned in to watch 10 Republican men slug it out for their party’s nomination.
Many threw ‘shade’ on the most controversial candidate in the race – real estate mogul Donald Trump, adding to his Twitter mentions.
“I swear on everything, if Donald Trump is the next president, I’m going back to the Caribbean,” wrote one Caribbean-American on Twitter as several agreed.
“If I have to live in a shack on the beach in the Caribbean I would be happy to never have to hear the words Donald Trump ever again,” another tweeted.
Others joked about Trump’s hair while still more claimed if the 133rd richest man is elected, blacks and Caribbean nationals can count on seeing a new form of slavery.
“If Donald Trump is elected president I call dibs on the part of the cotton field with the most shade,” tweeted Jamaican national Lady Cece.
On Facebook it was the same with several finding humor in Trump’s remarks including his answer to Fox News host Megyn Kelly question about his treatment of women.
“One of the things people love about you is that you speak your mind, don’t use a politician’s filter,” Kelly said. “But that has its downsides, in particular when it comes to women. You call women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs,’ and ‘disgusting animals.’”
“Only Rosie O’Donnell,” Trump quipped.
“No, it wasn’t,” Kelly replied. “It was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell. You once told a contestant on ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ that it ‘would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees.’ Does that sound to you like the temperament of someone we should elect as president,” and “how would you answer the question from Hillary Clinton…that you are part of the war on women?”
Trump replied that “the big problem this country has is being politically correct. I’ve been challenged by so many people, I don’t have time for total political correctness.” He said “what I say is fun, it’s kidding, we have a good time.”
“Trump is a pig and proud of it,” commented Daily New columnist and Cuban national Albor Ruiz on Facebook.
