News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Dec. 29, 2017: A Haitian Catholic priest who was gunned down in Frères, Haiti last Thursday, Dec. 21st, will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Port-au-Prince.

Father Joseph Simoly, 54, was attacked not far from his home, by unidentified individuals on a motorcycle, who shot him several times. He was rushed to the Haitian Community Hospital in Puits Blain, but succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector Gary Desrosiers, the deputy spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH), said Father Joseph Simoly had just completed a transaction in a bank and was likely the target of thieves.

His death has plunged the Haitian religious community into mourning. Father Simoly’s funeral service will be held from 8:30 am at the Transitional Cathedral of Port-au-Prince on Dec. 30th. A viewing will take place from 6:30 am in the chapel of the Archbishop’s palace.

Burial will take place at the Hinche Cathedral.
