News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Mon. Oct. 10, 2016: On Sunday night, NAN questioned why Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder had sent aid to The Bahamas and not Haiti. Well looks like Snyder got the memo.
The billionaire yesterday morning announced he will be flying the Redskins Haitian-American players – Pierre Garcon and Ricky Jean Francois to their Haiti with medical supplies. It includes gauze, IV solutions, wound care equipment and ACE wraps and bandages.
The Haiti delivery Monday comes as Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and his wife, Tanya, flew to The Bahamas Saturday with a plane full of supplies for hurricane victims there. Hurricane Matthew hit the Bahamas on Thurs. Oct. 6, 2016 as a category three storm causing flooding, power outages and property damage but no deaths.
Hurricane Matthew has been blamed for almost a 1,000 deaths in Haiti and for flattening 90 percent of the southern part of the island.
Garcon was born in New York to Haitian immigrant parents while Jean Francois was born in Miami to parents from Haiti as well. Both have expressed support for Haiti.
Garcon’s has a foundation called Helping Hands, which is focused on helping to provide long-term sustainable initiatives that will continue to positively influence the lives of Haitians. Currently the Foundation is establishing relationships with organizations that are looking to give Haitians a new beginning by developing shelter, establishing education and provide hope.
Both Garcon and Jean Francois led the Redskins with 56 receiving yards and scored the team’s lone touchdown in a 16-10 win on Sunday.
