News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 21, 2015: The topless Latinas who have emerged in Times Square could be a thing of the past.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio this week created a task force to examine how it can rein in the topless women who officials say are aggressively soliciting tips after posing for tourists’ pictures in Times Square. The semi-nude women, who call themselves ‘Desnudas,’ Spanish for naked,  pose for photos in exchange for tips.

The Latina women are a new addition to the colorful environment in Times Square which for years has been dominated by the Naked Cowboy.

“Over the past several months, serious concerns have been raised about both the appropriateness of topless individuals in Times Square, as well as aggressive solicitation by topless individuals and costumed characters that often times becomes harassment of New Yorkers and visitors alike,” Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office said.

The multi-agency team, co-chaired by Bratton and city Planning Commissioner Carl Weisbrod, will study the “legal and oversight issues associated with regulating topless individuals and costumed characters,” according to City Hall.

Its findings will be released on Oct. 1.
