News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. April 24, 2014:  Haitian-born actor Jimmy Jean Louis is breaking his silence following the murder of his father on April 10, 2014.

Lephène Jean-Louis, 78, the beloved father of Jimmy Jean-Louis of NBC’s ‘Heroes’ was an innocent bystander during an attempted robbery at a local store near his home in Torcelle, Haiti. He was shot once and later died from complications suffered from a single bullet to the abdomen.

The three assailants escaped by motorcycle and are still at large.

The actor who plays Toussaint L’Ouverture in a new French film on Wednesday, April 22nd took to Twitter and Instagram to express his appreciation “on the outpouring of kindness, love and support extended to me and my family on the recent passing of my Dad.”

“We take comfort in knowing that his loving memory lives on forever in our hearts,” said Jean Louis who was born in Pétionville before moving to Paris at a young age to pursue a modeling career and later to Hollywood for a career in film..

Haiti’s homicide rate has doubled in recent years – from 5.1 per 100,000 in 2007 to 10.2 per 100,000 in 2012, but it decreased slightly in the first half of 2013.

Most of the violence happens in Port -Au Prince with guns accounting for many of the homicides.
