News Americas, BOGOTA, Colombia, Mon. July 11, 2011: Police in Colombia are on the hunt for 17 prisoners who escaped from the Buchelli jail in the southwestern Narino province.

Around 20 prisoners escaped from Buchelli jail after an explosion at the prison and so far, only three have been recaptured. The explosive device, is believed to have been planted by FARC rebels on the outside.

Narino police commander Col William Montezuma said the fugitives were dangerous and included at least one senior member of the left-wing FARC rebel movement.
The security forces fear the fugitives may be trying to escape to Ecuador, which lies just south of the city.
